In the first of this new series of deep dive format newsletters, we focused on the world of AI in healthcare, collating useful resources from the Health Foundation’s work on this topic, and creating essential new content to take a deeper look at key issues. 

 

The challenge

The need for a new format health newsletter

Having replaced their detailed monthly newsletter with a weekly roundup, the Health Foundation wanted to develop an occasional alternative format for the newsletter which would focus on different health and care topics. 

The aim was to develop a newsletter editorial style that would work for the Health Foundation and its audiences by providing a more detailed and curated resource about an individual topic. This would showcase the Health Foundation’s body of work in different areas and give space for newly commissioned interviews and features. 

 

What we did

Developing the first deep dive newsletter on AI in healthcare

We worked closely with the Health Foundation’s communications team to come up with a fresh format for these deep dive newsletters, suggesting a template with key content types and approaches to commissioning content. 

With our approach approved, we oversaw editorial for the first issue, planning and delivering content. This made the most of the Health Foundation’s recent event on AI in healthcare, repurposing content from the event into fresh features and articles, and conducting further interviews to expand on areas of interest.

The final newsletter was a successful test of the new format for the Health Foundation’s deep dive newsletters and was well received by staff and subscribers, helping to showcase the Health Foundation’s wide ranging expertise on this important topic. Open rates were well above industry benchmarks and higher than the Health Foundation’s regular weekly roundup, with a high click to open rate driving visits to the website. The template has now been adopted for future deep dive editions of the newsletter.
